BRITISH WATERWAYS AND THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY TAKE MAJOR STEPS TOWARDS COMPLETION OF BOAT SAFETY SCHEME REVAMP
The Boat Safety Scheme’s (BSS) co-sponsors, the Environment Agency and British Waterways, have re-published the Scheme’s safety Standards and associated Check List items following an extensive review of the scope of the Scheme. Although the total number of Check List items have not changed, nor the Standards that they support, the emphasis placed on compliance with them to obtain a navigation licence has been altered for around one quarter of all Check List items.

NAVIGATION AUTHORITIES WELCOME BSS REVIEW TEAM’S FINAL REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS
British Waterways and the Environment Agency, co-sponsors of the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS), have welcomed the publication of the BSS Review Team’s final report into the Scheme, its operation, management and rationale.

Boat Safety Scheme - List of fail points which qualify for time-limited exemptions
Shown here are those Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) checklist items for which British Waterways and the Environment Agency will allow a time-limited exemption. If, during a BSS examination, any of the following check list items are registered as a failure, it will still be possible to apply for a British Waterways or the Environment Agency navigation licence during the time-limited exemption period.

NAVIGATION AUTHORITIES ACCEPT BOAT SAFETY SCHEME REVIEW TEAM’S INTERIM RECOMMENDATIONS
